CCPOAIronwood.com Pays Respect to Fallen Officer January 10, 2005 CCPOAIronwood.com received word this evening that Officer Manuel A. Gonzalez, Jr., age 43, was fatally wounded earlier today by an inmate at the California Institution for Men in Chino. According to a statement to the press by the California Department of Corrections, Officer Gonzalez died at a hospital following the 10:50 a.m. attack at the prison, which houses both minimum and medium security level inmates. C/O Gonzalez was a 16-year veteran of the Department of Corrections and had been working at CIM since February 1996 and was the father of five children. Three inmates - identified as Jon Blaylock, Keith White and Henry Riley - were being questioned about the stabbing and were said the be associates of the East Coast Crips, said department spokeswoman Margot Bach. Blaylock is considered the primary suspect in the attack according to officials, and was imprisoned last June for a 75-year sentence for attempted murder, after being imprisoned before in 1990 and 1993 for attempted burglary. "There is no greater loss than to lose a brother officer killed in the line of duty," Youth and Adult Correctional Agency Secretary Rod Hickman said in a statement to the press. "I know as professionals we will pull together to help Officer Gonzalez' children and parents deal with this loss and all of us throughout this state will pull together to help heal the wound that has been inflicted on our agency and state."
