The Great Boycott Begins…
Caught this on the PR wire over the weekend - apparently some members (I haven’t seen anything official from CCPOA as yet, so let’s make this clear that this is a member-induced event at this point) have called for a boycott on the McClatchy Company, the parent company of the infamous Sacramento Bee. The Bee has been a pain in the backside for correctional officers and the CCPOA for a long time now, but a recent article seems to have been the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. See blog entry below re: Lance Corcoran’s editorial response to the article and read within this post for the AP newswire report on the boycott of McClatchy:
The California Correctional Peace Officers Association has launched a boycott of McClatchy Company advertisers in an effort to fight back against what it calls a “personal attack” on the association by the Sacramento Bee’s editorial board.
CDC Adult Prisons Chief Resigns
This just in… the Associated Press just posted word that John Dovey, the Director of the Division of Adult Institutions of the California Department of Corrections resigned his position just days after reports were released which implicated Dovey in a case surrounding improperly altered disciplinary reports.
John Dovey, director of the Division of Adult Institutions, is quitting after a subordinate says he altered the punishments of nine guards at Salinas Valley State Prison two years ago.
The California Correctional Peace Officers Association is calling for legislative hearings into Dovey’s decision to fire all nine guards.
The guards were accused in the beating of an inmate but are trying to get their jobs back.
We will post more information as it becomes available.
